An Update on Online CEs

Hello, members.

I have some good news to share from the legislative front. We had requested, based on member requests and the results of our survey, an increase in allowed online hours for CEs allowed. This was passed in both the House and Senate and is awaiting the Governor’s signature.

Congratulations!

Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) in CT are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every four years. Previously, six (6) of these hours were allowed in an internet format. This has been changed to 18 hours allowed online.

For the full information, please see HB 6733, An Act Concerning the Department of Public Health’s Recommendations Regarding Various Revisions to the Public Health Statutes. The change comes after many educators have begun to teach their classes online and restricted their travel for in-person classes; technology has improved to allow for real-time web-based classes with participant interaction; and, many members noted that they are still unable to travel far distances for classes with noted and popular instructors. As your AMTA-CT Chapter leadership, we are happy to have been able to facilitate and champion this change.

Sincerely,

Nikki Arel, AMTA-CT Chapter Government Relations (GR) Chair
