Massage Therapy Awareness Day (MTAD) is right around the corner! This special day is dedicated to visiting the Capitol to educate lawmakers about the massage therapy profession. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness about any legislation that could affect our profession, while also offering 10-minute massage sessions to those in attendance.

We are looking for at least 10 therapists per shift. The space allows for massage chairs and Thai mats, but not tables.

When: This event will take place on Wednesday, May 21st, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please note: you should arrive at least 30 minutes early in order to find parking, walk to the Legislative Office Building (LOB), go through security, and walk (indoors) to the Capitol

There are three available shifts:

  • 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Each shift is four hours long. If you need to arrive late or leave early, please let us know. If you’re able to work a six-hour or full-day shift, we’ll make sure to schedule a 45-minute lunch break for you.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED Please email Becca Torns-Barker at GovRelAMTACT@gmail.com.

You will receive a confirmation email from her once registered.

Who: This event is open to any CT-licensed, active AMTA graduate or professional member. Student members are welcome to participate if accompanied by a current instructor or they may assist at the check-in table.

What: Chair or Thai massage (please bring your own equipment). We will provide face cradle covers and Lysol wipes. Don’t forget to bring your business cards, as well as water and snacks for your shift.

Where: Capitol Building North Lobby, 210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford CT

PLEASE NOTE: Parking at the Capitol/LOB is limited, so we encourage you to carpool if possible.

Please dress professionally. Wear an AMTA volunteer shirt if you have one from previous years. If not, a sports team polo, massage business polo, scrub top, or any professional top is also appropriate. Pair it with professional slacks (nothing torn or stained) or bottoms that allow for comfort and movement. Since we’ll be working on marble floors, comfortable, supportive shoes are recommended.

Once you register, more details will be sent to you via email.
