Nikki Arel, GR AMTA-CT Chapter
Hello All and welcome to Fall.
Our first BIG news is the NEW website layout and easy-to-use tabs for Government Relations! Look us up and find all the laws regarding massage here in CT as well as the link to the human trafficking poster. We hope that this will make your lives, and management of your offices and license, a little simpler.
Also, HB6742, which was a Bill we were watching during last session DID pass. This requires estheticians, nail and lash techs to all obtain licenses. This does not directly affect you, unless you are cross-trained and working in these professions. When the Bill was proposed, the language was requiring a ‘DPH-licensed professional’ to manage any business that employs these newly-licensed professions. Upon receipt of the actual wording of the law? This was changed to indicate that the business must be managed by a DPH-licensed hairdresser, cosmetologist, esthetician, nail or lash tech. We have contacted DPH and our lobbyist to find out how to change the language to include LMTs.
If you do not employ but rent to these professions as independent contractors, you should be fine, as they manage their own business. I am still awaiting confirmation from DPH that they read the wording the same in that regard. I shall keep you updated via the website and FB page, as well as through e-blasts, as any movement occurs.
If this DOES apply to your business, could you please reach out so that I may include you as possibly giving written or verbal/in-person testimony if needed?
Thank you!
