2024 AMTA-CT Chapter Distinguished Service Award – Tama Mackay

Tama has only been a massage therapist and member for 8 years. She has been a fitness instructor for 23 Years. Tama has served the CT Chapter as Sports Massage Team Chair.

She was also involved in speaking at the Capitol, educating our state leaders on the science of sports massage, during the time that the legislature wanted to tax massage therapy. Her testimony to the legislature was instrumental in proving that massage is not a luxury service and helped secure the legislative victory regarding sales tax. Tama also provided information to the Reopen Connecticut Committee on how to safely do sports massage in the COVID era.

She has been involved with CT Special Olympics since 2017 as the Sport Massage Coordinator. This position requires her to coordinate directly with the Director of Health and Wellness and manage a team of massage therapists to work with the athletes at the Special Olympics Summer Games.

Tama’s professional work has centered around sports and she has worked with multiple sports teams on various levels, from college, to professional teams, and to the US Olympics. Most recently she has been hired as one of two massage therapists as part of the Sports Medicine Team for the summer games in Paris.
